This week, we're featuring Katya Craats - a Vancouver Island based creative who embraces kindness as a way of celebrating the small, beautiful moments of everyday life.

My name is Katya, but you can call me Kat. I'm a 21-year-old west-coast-roamer, tree-hugger and left-brainer currently rooted in Victoria, BC. If I'm not out in the mountains or along the coast somewhere, you can probably find me eating Tacofino, sipping earl grey, slacklining, or watering my immense collection of plants. Apart from a love of the outdoors, my passions include photography, videography, graphic design, and pretty much all creativity-related activities.

Why do you think the world needs more kindness?

The world needs more kindness because I'm sure we can all agree that the smallest acts of kindness have the greatest impacts on our days. Whether the person in line ahead of you offers to buy your coffee, or the homeless person on the street was beyond stoked about the 12" pizza you gave him, these are the moments that act as a ray of sunshine bursting through the monotony of day-to-day existence. Kindness and the idea of paying it forward is like a never ending cycle of pleasant surprises!

What's your life motto?

My 'life motto's are always changing, but I'd have to say my latest one is probably "Starve the ego, feed the soul". In my opinion, its essential to always remain humble, treat others as you want to be treated, and strive to do better as a means of cultivating your own strength and personal wellbeing. Succeed in silence - let your motivation and determination speak for itself. Most importantly, never put yourself above those around you, and stop comparing yourself to others. We're all just out here doin' the best we can!
